In an article published March 11, 2024 on Law.com, Phillip N. Smith Jr. is profiled highlighting his journey to becoming a partner at the firm.

When asked what Smith sees as the deciding point for the firm in electing him, he said, “I believe my firm made me a partner based on my performance in several cases, including successfully trying a case approximately three months after joining. I also believe the firm valued the significant litigation experience I brought, having tried dozens of cases in front of a jury during my career in the public sector. As I am also a commissioned JAG officer in the U.S. Navy Reserve, I think the firm valued my ability to successfully manage two careers (i.e., a “civilian” career and a military career).”

Smith would advise an associate aiming to make partner to “Take initiative and attempt to think outside the box. Try not to overwork yourself. Find a mentor who is someone you aspire to be and learn from them. Stay relevant. Maintain and broaden competency by pursuing continuing education opportunities.”
