“The Foreign Corrupt Practices Act of 1977 is best known by its four-letter acronym — FCPA — and like another four-letter “F word,” it is not looked upon lovingly in polite company,” says Belk, adding that Congress enacted the FCPA to punish bribing foreign officials and to force companies involved with securities of the United States to employ transparent accounting records.
