LITIGATION DEPARTMENT OF THE YEAR - Mid-Size Firm  ALM's Daily Report   2017 - 2016 - 2014

Skilled and Experienced Appellate Lawyers

Weinberg Wheeler Hudgins Gunn & Dial has a national appellate practice that focuses on briefing and arguing significant cases before numerous state appellate courts, the various federal circuit courts of appeal and the United States Supreme Court.  We often handle appeals on matters we have litigated at the trial court level, but equally as often we are hired anew by clients to litigate appeals on cases initially handled by other firms.

Our Appellate Practice Group is led by an experienced appellate practitioner, who is a former Department of Justice federal prosecutor, and who is a longtime teacher of appellate practice. It is comprised of appellate lawyers who served as judicial law clerks or interns for state and federal courts and who devote a significant amount of their practice to appellate work. Many members of our Appellate Practice Group are recognized by The Best Lawyers in America© and Chambers USA: Leading Lawyers for Business.

When handling post-trial or interlocutory appeals, our appellate attorneys closely examine the record, conduct thorough and incisive research, develop strategy and theories, and present both written and oral arguments in a concise manner.

We understand that complicated legal issues need to be finely distilled to enhance our clients' chances of success on appeal.

As a litigation-focused firm, our appellate attorneys are often integrated at the trial court level, where we collaborate with trial counsel to analyze the facts, formulate the trial strategy, brief and argue dispositive motions and motions in limine, and craft jury instructions consistent with the facts and the law.

Members of our appellate group, with experience in framing and preserving issues for appeal, frequently serve as consultants to the firm's Trial Practice, leveraging knowledge gained through our appellate experience to guide and direct litigation strategy and brief writing.
