David Matthews Co-Authors Article in Daily Report
Atlanta-based Partner, David Matthews, recently co-authored an article in Daily Report entitled “The Impact of Motivated Reasoning on Memory and Impact in Disputes.”
The article explores the psychology of conflict, specifically the aspect of motivated reasoning. Motivated reasoning “refers to unconscious processes in which people’s goals or interests shape their perception of information and/or the reasoning processes they apply to it.” David and co-author, Glenn Hutchison (an Atlanta-based clinical psychologist), delve into how lawyers’ understanding and addressing motivated reasoning can “help give… a sense of what’s realistic for your client and case… (and) achieve better results in mediation as well as trial, if necessary.”
