Return to Workplace Delayed Due to Omicron Surge

WWHGD Partner, Matt Gomes, was recently quoted in a Society of Human Resource Management article entitled "Return to Workplace Delayed Due to Omicron Surge".

The new omicron variant has resulted in a number of breakthrough cases in which fully vaccinated individuals have become infected with COVID-19, causing many employers to rethink a return to physical office locations.

Matt Gomes, partner at Weinberg Wheeler Hudgins Gunn & Dial, said companies who choose to remain in the office should still consider safety measures like masking: “It is not a bad idea to implement a mask rule for anyone working indoors in a closed space where they cannot socially distance from others and to provide suitable masks – N95 or KN95 – if possible,” he said.

Gomes said employers should continue to educate their workforce on vaccine safety including “emphasizing that even though breakthrough infections are possible, they are much less severe for vaccinated individuals as opposed to unvaccinated,” he said.
