Our Insurance Coverage Practice Group has a proven record of success on behalf of insurers in complex insurance coverage matters. The services we provide include advice and counsel on the applicability of insurance to particular claims, and the routine preparation of coverage opinions recommending appropriate action in response to claims for coverage.
We serve as counsel to insurance companies in litigation over the respective rights and obligations of insurers and insureds for a myriad of insurance lines, including general liability, professional liability, directors and officers, fire, commercial property, personal auto and life.
The insurance coverage practice at WWHGD is national in scope. The firm serves as national coverage counsel for several large insurers, and our attorneys are actively involved in litigation throughout the country. We have handled coverage claims in more than 30 different states. Our clients include primary insurers, umbrella and excess insurers, and reinsurers.

Some recent cases of this practice group include:
- Service as national coordinating counsel for large liability insurers in cases arising under 47 U.S.C. § 227 (the Telephone Consumer Protection Act), including Missouri, Arizona, West Virginia and Georgia, and TCPA claims nationwide.
- Service on arbitration panel deciding dispute between major textile manufacturer and consortium of 33 property carriers arising out of fire loss involving one of the largest United States property insurance claims ever litigated.
- Defense of $50 million coverage action alleging bad faith failure to pay by first party property carrier and favorable settlement of case on behalf of carrier.
- Favorable order by Texas federal court in multimillion dollar coverage dispute precluding insured from obtaining deposition on noticed topics of counsel retained by carrier to participate in investigation of claim and render legal advice.
- Summary judgment in favor of life company on claims of bad faith and failure to meet claimed duty to notify policy cancellation for non-payment of policy premium.
- Summary judgment in favor of property insurer for alleged bad faith and failure to pay claim arising from vandalism.
