Our Foodborne Illness Litigation Practice Group is a nationwide practice with particular expertise in handling litigation arising from foodborne outbreaks caused by various pathogenic organisms, including E.coli, salmonella, shigella, and lysteria.
Our attorneys have counseled clients on a host of issues relating to foodborne illnesses and outbreaks, including the defense of personal injury claims, regulatory oversight and compliance, commercial disputes with vendors, wholesalers and retailers, first and third party insurance issues and claims, and media relations.
Some recent cases of this practice group include:
- Minnesota, Wisconsin, Illinois: Represented mid-Western beef processor in multi-state E. coli 0157:H7 outbreak that resulted in over 300 claims.
- Michigan: Claims against beef processor dismissed in multiple suits brought as the result of an E. coli 0157:H7 outbreak.
- Pennsylvania: Defended nursing home and successfully obtained indemnity from wholesaler in E. coli 0157:H7 outbreak afflicting over 100 residents.
- Pennsylvania, New York, New Jersey: Defended chicken processor in large salmonella outbreak in the Mid-Atlantic in which plaintiffs’ attempts at class certification were defeated and cases subsequently favorably compromised.
- Georgia: Defended water amusement park against multiple claims arising from E. coli 0157:H7 outbreak affecting several toddlers and adolescents.
