Laura L. Voght
Civil litigation practice focuses primarily on product liability, professional negligence, medical malpractice and catastrophic torts. Represents physicians before the State Composite Medical Board and dentists before the Georgia Board of Dentistry. Handles defense of legal malpractice claims and complaints against attorneys before the State Bar of Georgia. Regularly consults with healthcare clients on a variety of legal issues, including medical records documentation, informed consent and general consent, guardianship, risk prevention, peer review, credentialing and regulatory issues. Also counsels national drug and medical device manufacturers on issues of FDA policies and procedures, federal regulations, warning letters, compliance matters, corrective actions and product promotional materials.
Representative Cases/Experience
- Represented and defended clients in product liability cases involving medical devices and prescription drugs.
- Successfully argued and briefed issues before the Supreme Court of Georgia, the Georgia Court of Appeals and the Eleventh Circuit Court of Appeals.
- Directed verdict for defense in professional negligence against endodontist.
- Litigated and resolved multiple cases involving serious injury, including wrongful death and permanent brain damage.
- Handled defense of hospitals, nurses, physicians and other health care providers, from time of initiation of suit, through trial and appellate stages.
- Worked with healthcare providers to assess and implement the regulatory requirements of HIPAA, as well as other federal and state privacy and confidentiality laws.
